Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 pa, depending on experience
Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours – (flexible hours)
About the role:
Our client a long established and trusted UK & European Freight company are looking to recruit an experienced, proactive Road Freight Forwarder to join their dynamic team.
This is a UK focused role, dedicated to managing domestic road haulage operations. You'll play a key part in the day to day planning and coordination of vehicle movements across the UK.
Key Responsibilities of the Road Freight Forwarder - UK:
- Act as the main point of contact for customers and hauliers, ensuring timely deliveries with a strong focus on customer service
- Plan, coordinate and oversee UK domestic road freight movements from start to finish
- Prepare accurate quotations and costings for domestic transport, including detailed responses to tender opportunities
- Identify, source and book third party hauliers and subcontractors to support operational needs
- Build and nurture strong working relationships with customers and subcontractor partners
- Proactively monitor live jobs to ensure high service levels and on time delivery
- Respond quickly and effectively to any transport issues or disruptions
- Monitor and work towards Gross Profit targets, seeking opportunities to improve margins
- Ensure all transport activities are accurately recorded and updated in the transport management system
Skills & Experience required:
- Solid background in UK road freight forwarding, with hands on experience in domestic haulage operations
- Sound knowledge of UK haulage rate structures, including outbound and backload pricing models
- Up to date insight into the UK transport sector, including subcontractor capabilities and preferred operational corridors
- Excellent communication, coordination and organisational skills
- Able to manage competing priorities and perform well under pressure
- Confident user of transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office applications
- Proactive approach with strong problem solving abilities and a keen eye for detail
